Calgary’s Oldest Independent Pharmacy
In 1951 Lukes Drug Mart opened in Calgary’s Bridgeland neighbourhood, making Lukes the oldest independently owned pharmacy in Calgary. Three generations later we are still operating in our original location. We are focused on supporting local brands, artists and the community.
Three Generations of Family Ownership
Jim Lukes
Founder/Owner, 1949-1985
Bob Lukes
Owner, 1985-2013
Gareth Lukes
Owner, 2013-present
Jim Lukes first established the Bridgeland pharmacy in 1951
Today we operate a second store located in Calgary’s Killarney neighbourhood. In addition to the two stores Gareth Lukes has also opened a cafe in Calgary’s Central library, as well as a coffee kiosk in the heart of the library building. In the 1950’s Lukes Drug Mart operated with a soda fountain, and today we make our own Soft Serve ice cream available at both Bridgeland and Killarney locations with rotating flavours.
Lukes Drug Mart has been a family run business since the beginning, and has evolved through the decades to meet the needs of the community. Gareth Lukes continues to transform the family business as his grandfather and father did before him.
